At 5,895 meters (19,341 feet) Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa and the tallest freestanding mountain in the world<\/strong><\/mark>;<\/mark> it is one of the Seven Summits. The snow-capped peak of Africa is a dormant volcano and can be found inside the Kilimanjaro National Park of Tanzania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mount Kilimanjaro is composed of three distinct volcanic cones: Kibo 19,340 feet (5895 meters); Mawenzi 16,896 feet (5149 m); and Shira 13,000 feet (3962 m). Uhuru Peak is the highest summit on Kibo\u2019s crater rim.<\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mount Kilimanjaro is a giant stratovolcano that began forming a million years ago, when lava spilled from the Rift Valley zone. Two of its three peaks, Mawenzi and Shira, are extinct while Kibo (the highest peak) is dormant and could erupt again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To climb until the summit there are seven itineraries ; Marangu, Machame, Lemosho, Rongai Shira, Umbwe & the Northern circuit. Each itinerary has his pros and cons.
