Materuni Waterfall is one of the Waterfalls in the Mware River. It is found in the village of Materuni on the edge of the Kilimanjaro mountain reserve. These falls are smaller than Ndoro, but still pretty impressive at 150 meters high and a sight worth seeing.
This trip is an amazing way to discover the nature’s beauty of this region, moreover for people who have only a limited time here. It also could be a good way to prepare yourself before the climb of Kilimanjaro or even mount Meru.
Materuni village is the home of the Chagga tribe (who are one of the largest ethnic tribe of Tanzania) and is still an authentic tribal village with typical Chagga houses. This tour is a good way to learn more about the local history and traditions and the way of life there but also discover all the local food and fruits and even the local banana beer.
We’ll pick you up from your hotel in the morning and have a short drive (around 30 min-45min) to the village of Materuni, located in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro. Accompanied by our guide, you will begin this tour with a walk to the Materuni Waterfall through a hiking route across the Materuni Village. As a reward of the walk you will enjoy a stunning view of the waterfall and have the opportunity to enjoy a refreshing swim in the natural pool just below the waterfall, so don’t forget your swimsuit.
We recommend you to take hiking boots because depending on the weather the path can be muddy and very slippery. If you are lucky and there isn’t too many clouds, you will maybe see the Kilimanjaro’s summit.
The tour will continue with a traditional Chagga meal nearby coffee plantations and you will learn how the coffee is cultivated, dried, roasted and all the process from the beans to the cup. You will enjoy the experience of making coffee and of course testing it at the end !
After this, our driver will pick you off at your hotel.
